Llanidloes 48 Flint 12

It was another tough weekend on the road for Flint, travelling down to Llanidloes with a weakened squad and a baptism of fire for debutant 6'7" wing Jack Douglas.

Llanidloes started strongly scoring 2 quick tries to put them in buoyant mood. Flint struggled in the set piece and lost prop Gwyn Jones after 15 minutes through injury making way for the very veteran coach and prop Aled Davies. Flint got themselves back into the game, having achieved parity in the set piece, with some determined pick and drives near the Llanidloes line ending with flanker Jamie Elder forcing his way over for an unconverted try.

Flint suffered more bad luck when winger Sam Lewsey had to go off for blood treatment forcing Flint to use their 2nd and last substitute, utility player Ross Mitchell. Soon after veteran 2nd Row Phil Elder went off with a bad knee injury, bringing Mitchell into the 2nd row and Sam Lewsey back on to the wing after his treatment. Flint went into the break trailing 25-5 but encouraged by some determined play.

Flint needed to start the 2nd half well if they were to get anything out of this game but conceded an early try, This was a setback after such sterling work by flyhalf and skipper for the day Tom Prydderch and centre Kieron Jones to get Flint into the Llanidloes half. Flint once again pressured Llanidloes' line with some forward drives and they recycled ball well with centre Jones penetrating the line to score Flints 2nd and last try of the afternoon. Flyhalf Prydderch converted

Late on into the 2nd half Flint were carrying some walking wounded, but with no more subs they had to grit their teeth and carry on, letting in some more tries despite the brave efforts of Flints man of the match and fullback Andy Hewitt who seemed to be everywhere tackling everything that moved.

Flint eventually lost the game 48-12 but not after a brave battle by all who made the long journey down to mid Wales.
