MENAI BRIDGE 10 FLINT 24 Flint got back to winning ways on Saturday, with a hard fought win away against Menai Bridge, consolidating their position in the league with a few games in hand on the their nearest rivals.
With the slope and wind behind them in the first half, Flint needed to get some points on board to take that advantage into the second half. They came up against a well drilled Menai pack however, who were getting the better of them in the set piece. The Flint backs showed good form with what ball they were getting and full back Sam Parry showed great strength with his running and distance with his boot. Parry kept Flint down in the Menai half and eventually Flint got on the scoreboard after a loose ball was kicked over into the dead ball area. Centre Kieron Jones managed to chase it down and got his hands on it for the touch down, converted by fly half Tom Prydderch.
Flints continued indiscipline at the ruck allowed Menai in the game, eventually kicking a penalty and scoring a converted try to make the half time score 10-7.
The second half saw a more determined Flint pack make amends for their poor first half performance. With the wind and slope against them they had their work cut out, but work they did to get back into the game and from a scrum out wide No 8 and skipper Mitch Martin picked up and fed scrum half Geraint Jones to go in for an unconverted try to take the lead 10-12. What ensued next can only be described as a mass brawl with almost the the entire 2 teams involved. The Referee calmed things down and dealt with the situation very well sin binning 3 players, 2 from Menai and 1 from Flint. This unfortunate event in the game seemed to gel the Flint side who took control of the game. Fly half Prydderch capped an excellent game when he converted his own try after throwing a dummy then a strong hand off to score under the posts. Centre Matt Harvey rounded off an excellent second half for Flint, jinking his way through to score an unconverted try to secure a 10-24 win.
Skipper Martin gave a man of the match performance with his endless work rate, leadership and phenomenal strength
