Llanidloes 13 Flint 21

Flint produced their best game of the season so far to earn themselves an away win at 4th placed Llanidloes.

With a number of key players missing for the away trip due to work commitments, the players who came in; Gaz Saunders for Jake Shill, Tom McFarland for Mike Warburton, Ryan Beck for Gez Jones and Sam (Penny) Lewsey filling in the wing spot vacated by Beck, all stepped up the plate and gave outstanding performances leaving the selectors something to think about ahead of next week's away trip to league leaders Colwyn Bay.

Llanidloes put Flint under pressure from the start. Flints defence held firm and forced penalties out of a frustrated Llanidloes. They eventually conceded a penalty in front of the posts on their 10 metre line, which fly half Tom Prydderch dually slotted over. Llanidloes managed to level the score with a penalty of there own, but Flint continued to put pressure on the home side forcing another kickable penalty from which Prydderch took the point. With the welcome return to the side of hooker Owain Roberts, Flint this week dominated the set piece. Roberts found Tom McFarland and Josh Moss easy targets in the lineouts whilst the front row of Gaz Saunders, Roberts and Dai Goss got the better of their counterparts.

Llanidloes did manage to get over the Flint try line in the first half but their No 8 spilt the ball before grounding. Prydderch stepped up to kick a monumental penalty from the half way line making the score at half time 3-9.

Flint now were exuberayting confidence and knew they were in for a memorable win if they could keep the same pressure on as shown in the first half. Flint started the half the better, making deep runs into Llanidloes territory orchestrated by fly half and MOM Prydderch, eventually putting centre Matt Harvey on a mazy run to score under the posts, converted by Prydderch.

Frustration had now built up to boiling point amongst the home side, resulting in their scrum half being red carded for stamping on the unlucky Gaz Saunders, scant reward for his hard days graft. With Llanidloes one man down in their back line, Flint were able to put more pressure on, feeding the ball out wide to powerful winger Ryan Jones who ran in near the corner taking a few Llanidloes players with him, Prydderch missed the conversion 3-21. By this time Flint had made a few changes bringing on Jamie Williams for the injured Lewsey and old heavyweights Aled Davies and Phil Elder for Gaz Saunders and Dai Goss, but Llanidloes weren't finished, opting for uncontested scrums which worked in their favour as they were allowed pressure free ball at the back of the scrum culminating in two late tries for the home side.  It was too little too late for them as Flint came out deserved winners 13-21
