Collwyn Bay 72 Flint 12

Despite opening the scoring after just 10 minutes, this was never going to be Flints day. Flanker Jamie Elder caught the Bay defence cold and made a break into their half, the ball was quickly recycled for skipper Mitch Martin to force his way over the try line, the try was converted by fly half Tom Prydderch.

For the next 60 minutes, Flint were witness to a style of rugby deserving of a side that is top of the league, even though Flint were well beaten by a Bay side that hadn't lost all season, it showed Flint the standard they needed to achieve if they were to challenge for promotion in the coming seasons. Flint have been in this position before when they were made to realise what was needed to gain promotion from Division 3. Flint rose to the challenge then and I'm sure they will do the same this time.

Although Colwyn Bay scored tries at regular intervals, mainly by sucking defenders in, off loading well in the tackle then spreading the ball wide for their speedy wingers to score in the corners, Flint never gave up the fight and had spells in the game when they had the bigger Bay pack on the back foot with their pick up and drive play. However, his was never going to be enough to get some sort of result out of the game.

Flint did have the last say in the match with inspirational skipper Martin leading a another forward drive in the Bay 22 metre area eventually forcing his way over in the corner for his brace of tries on the final whistle, conversion was missed, final score 72-12

With some tremendous individual performances it was winger Sam Lewsey who came top of the pile for his brave tackling and was nominated Flints man of the match.
