Wrexham 12 Flint 10

Flint lost their league game with neighbours Wrexham 12-10, doing everything bar win it. Centre Matt Harvey had a disallowed try 10 minutes into the game and fly half Tom Prydderch missed 4 penalties; one hitting the upright and another hitting the cross bar with 5 minutes to go.

Lessons were learnt from last week and Flint started the game really well, not giving Wrexham an inch all first half, only managing one trip into the 22. Wrexham defended like demons, and Flint only reached their line with Harvey's disallowed try. Wrexham managed to keep the score line to 0-3 at half time through a penalty by Prydderch, even though Flint had all the possession and territory

Wrexham came out a lot stronger in the second half and made a few in roads into the Flint half, mainly due to the introduction of No 8 Kier Hardy. With more possession Wrexham managed to score 2 quick tries, one converted to make the score line 12-3. Flint gathered themselves, put the pressure back on and scored a perfectly executed try by second row Josh Moss driving over from a lineout. Prydderch added the extras. Flint were back to their rampant form of the first half, with captain Mitch Martin, flanker Jamie Elder and centre Matt Harvey making big in roads deep into the Wrexham half with tremendous ball carries. MOM flanker Loz Rogers and hooker Owain Roberts worked tirelessly throughout, scrum half Geraint Jones and second row Tom Mcfarland had their best games wearing the black & amber of Flint.

With only 5 minutes remaining, the unlucky Prydderch, who had controlled the game with maturity at fly half hit the upright and the cross bar with two late penalties which would have given Flint the deserved win, instead they had to be content with a losing bonus point.

The game was played in great spirit and despite the conditions, both sides showed excellent ball handling and exciting rugby for the spectator.

Man of the Match - Loz Rogers.
